Two Months, Easter, & Other Happenings

It has almost been a month since I last posted, but nothing has really changed. Maddie is nuts. Charlie is growing. The usual.

Steve started his new position for a day, then went back to his old position for a few weeks, and started his new position for the second time this week. Things have been better than they were, but it is pretty much given that he will not be home until 7:00 on a regular night. That is still not ideal, but better. He will be staying home with Charlie next week, which is when I return to work. Steve is super excited. I am super torn. I'm looking forward to getting back to the routine of work (for the 4 weeks of school until summer....I know that sounds tough!). I'm also really going to miss my boy. How will he ever take a nap if he doesn't have someone to lay tummy to tummy with him listening to him breath and smelling his head? Won't he miss me? Who will he smile and coo at? (If he weren't my baby I know I would probably sound like a stalker. I just can't resist him.) Anyway, I'm sure Charlie will survive and I'll be the only one missing someone. I'm feeling disappointed in myself that I didn't get more accomplished in my 11 weeks at home. Nevertheless, when I look back in 20 years I think I'll be happy I spent so much of my time cuddling with my sweet boy and not so sad that I didn't organize my digital photos, paint the master suite, keep the house spotless, and keep up with my weight-loss plan. Those extra 15 pounds will probably still be there in 20 years....I can work on it then!

Charlie has hit the two month mark. He is actually almost two months and three-quarters. At his appointment he weighed in at 12 pounds, 8 ounces and was 23 inches long. That means he gained just shy of four pounds and grew two inches. He is beyond growing out of his clothes. Right now his pants are hitting about an inch above his ankles, but I know summer is around the corner and we won't be needed those pants anymore. Charlie also had his first round of immunizations: three shots and one oral. Poor boy screamed harder than I had ever seen and then fell asleep for most of the rest of the day. He is smiling and cooing like crazy. As for movement, this kid is a lump. Maddie rolled over from her back to her stomach by this time and was well on the way to rolling over from stomach to back. She was also able to hold herself up during tummy time. Charlie, on the other hand, has no clue that he can change his position without help. If you lay him down for tummy time he pretty much screams, spits up, and falls asleep. I should have known this based on his pregnancy. Maddie never, never, never stopped moving and her movement were rough. Charlie really only seemed to move to strech himself out and was fairly gentle. We'll see if that stays the same.

Maddie continues to amaze me with the things she says. The other day at lunch she looked at me as serious as could be and said, "Do you know the Muffin Man?" I've never sang that song or read that nursery rhyme. She has heard it on Shrek, but I didn't think she paid that much attention. I told her no and she just shrugged her shoulders and went back to eating. Then I got hysterical. She is funny. I think she had a fairly good Easter. We went to the Foxes' the weekend before. Easter weekend we had brunch at my mom's and then dinner at my dad's. Maddie was very much the entertainment at all events, but definitely at my dad's. I don't know what was going on; however, I can say she was bouncing off the walls. On Sunday, we had a little inside Easter egg hunt thanks to what feels like 40 days and nights of rain. She got a basket of goodies including Tangled, Despicable Me, a tee shirt, a cup, a coloring book, and some princess stickers. One of the movies was technically Charlie's, but he was asleep and didn't seem to mind. She was the worst egg hunter. She opened every egg as soon as she found it. Luckily, she didn't have any competition or else she might have ended up with one egg.
