Maddie's been back in daycare full-time for a week, and I've been to work (getting paid) for 3 days. She is as happy as a clam being back in her routine. They are transitioning her into the toddler room, which will put her back with the kids she was with all last year. Every time I've picked her up from that room she seems to be having a great time.
Work is at its craziest. I would really like to skip the first month of school and just appear in the middle of September when schedules have worked out the kinks, 6th graders aren't freaking out from the transition, and the teacher has actually done some prep work! The week before work I was really struggling with all day morning sickness, so I didn't get into my room as much as I had hoped. Now, I am paying for it. Oh, well! Eventually it will settle down. Steve's work is fine. It sounds like he might be planning a few trips to China in the near future. Possible times are around Christmas and in February; I don't approve of either of those times, as you can guess.
Steve made me have this lovely picture taken because he says the due date is 6 months away to the day. Officially, I'm 4 months on Monday.....even though my midsection seems to be saying I'm more like 6 months along! I have not been feeling very good, but the worst problem is the exhaustion. I barely make it until 8:00 before passing out on the couch. I hope my body adjusts to running around at school and no afternoon naps soon!
Maddie is something else. She is nothing but sweet for anyone else, but leave her with her parents and it is tantrum city. She is learning all kinds of words and tasks. I've got her helping me feed the dogs by taking their full bowls to their eating spots. She liked to fill their bowls, but as long as she could reach the food she was always trying to feed them. The food had to be moved outside, because Jezz is fat enough. Her newest and favorite word/person is 'rah-rah' and even sometimes 'Sarah'. She also blows the t.v. when I watch the cooking channel and she sees hot food. That one cracks me up every time. She also loves to look at some animal picture books I have. She makes a lot of the sounds, including: bear, dog, cat, elephant, and rabid cow. On a happy note, she has gone to bed 3 nights in a row without her paci....it is a miracle!
Mid-bite during a tantrum. She usually only bites her mom or herself.
No matter how many times I tried to show her how to eat the corn, she went right back to chewing on the cob end. Surely, it has some nutrients...right?
This picture is awful, but the only one I got before the camera died. We took Maddie to the county fair to see the animals. I'm not sure who enjoyed it more, Maddie or Daddy, but she said 'whoa' over and over and over. On a side note, the sheep in the background belonged to one of my students. Sadly, it got so hot that week that one of his sheep (and many other animals) died.
Last weekend we loaded up and went on a rafting trip with my siblings and Helen's family. It is really more of a 'float' trip. At first all the kids were going along, but it ended up just being Mads. I was worried at first because it could have been a real downer to have a screaming kid along, but she did great. The biggest problem was that she wanted to be in the water at all times, even when it wasn't feasible. She only had one breakdown when she desparately needed a nap and was too excited to shut her eyes. Eventually, Steve took her in a tube and she gave in for a bit. Overall, it was a fun trip and we are looking forward to going next year.
