Well, we were afraid you were all getting bored, so we decided to spice it up a little for our blog. Maddie had a very low-grade fever for several days, but we had attributed it to a molar working its way through. Steve and I had been taking turns keeping her home, just to be on the safe side. Wedneday night my mom was here, and noticed that her neck was swollen. Nurse-In-Training Sarah felt it and said it was her lymph node, so I wasn't concerned. Thurdsay it had gotten even bigger and was as hard as a rock. We decided to get her an appointment with her doctor, who couldn't tell us what it was. He gave her an antibiotic and said to take her to the ER if it got bigger or she started acting sick....she had been acting fine all week. When I got home from work, her neck looked bigger to me. We decided to take her in to the ER, just to ease my mind. Well, my mind was not eased. They decided to do a white blood count, other blood work, and a CAT scan....to rule out lymphoma! The doctor didn't tell us this outright, but he did say we needed to start thinking about children's hospitals in St. Louis. YIKES! After 2 heart-wrenching attempts to get I.V.s in her hands (one failed and one 'blown'), we got an I.V. in her foot. She was an angel during the scan, then back to the room to wait. We hadn't eaten dinner, because I thought we would be in and out in no time. Five hours later, we were all tired and hungry and sick of being stuck in a room. Anyway, the scan showed that it was just a bad infection, which in a strange way made us all happy. We were admitted overnight for I.V. antibiotics. Once they were done poking and proding her, the worst part was that she couldn't walk. She is a go-getter, so having to sit in someone's lap for a day was a new concept for her, and one she didn't take well to. The pediatric wing had a wagon, which helped to distract her for part of the day. We were able to come home Saturday afternoon, and we were all happy. After talking with the pediatrician, I felt a little silly for taking her in, but at least we know that she is fine. As of today, her neck looks 80% better and she still acts great. We'll take her in for a check-up Monday morning and hopefully back to daycare. We all need to get back on schedule!

She sure doesn't look sick. You can see a little of the swelling on her right jaw. You would think the pediatric wing of the hospital would have smaller gowns!
This boot ain't made for walkin'.
Cracking herself up after lunch. A little antibiotic for dessert!
On top of this, Gracie bit Jezz again, and she is not looking good. I tried to treat it myself, but it was looking horrible by Friday. Steve took her in to the vet for stiches and medicine. There is a large, hard mass of infection in her neck and a hole through her eyelid. Right now we are giving her antibiotics, but I'm not seeing much change. Considering she will turn 12 in June, this is probably not what she needed.
