I would really like to know what happened to my sweet little Maddie. It seems that she left all her sweetness and niceness and cuteness somewhere in her first twelve months of life. Once her birthday was over, she turned into some creature that has only one purpose in life.....to make me crazy. Let me explain. Maddie has always been 'mommy crazy'. If given a choice, she will choose me, but she has taken it to a new, ridiculous level. She wants to be held at all times, by me, no matter what. She rarely plays with any of her toys, instead, wanting to just sit on my lap and look at books. If I put her down, she screams bloody murder until I pick her up again, no matter how long I try to wait her out. You might think she is just cranky; she has a lot going on right now with learning and teething, but she can be a normal child until she sees my face. Daycare: good all day. Evening with mom: horrible. Morning with dad: good all day. Mom is in the room: screaming until she can't breathe. Lucky for both of us, she still gives me kisses and hugs and I forget everything that she just did....at least until it starts again! I will be so happy when this phase is OVER! She loves to be outside, so maybe the nice weather will help us all.

A rare book with dad
Only (decent) 12 month picture I could get
Last week, Steve took Maddie to her one-year doctor's appointment. He just validated what we already knew...Maddie is freakishly small! She actually lost a pound in the last month before her appointment making her 18 pounds 4 ounces. She is supposed to drink only milk (no juice or water), and they'll check her again at 15 months. The doc didn't give us a percentile for her weight, but we looked it up online and found it was anywhere from the 5th to the 9th percentile. My mom happened to find my old shot records and saw that I was just over 18 pounds at the same age, and I only gained one pound by the time I was 18 months. I see this as being a continuing problem. I don't really think of her as being small until I see her next to her friends at daycare. She comes by it naturally...have you seen her father? : )

Maddie had a fall at daycare and busted her mouth all up. Just when some of the swelling had gone down, she tripped over a toy and busted it again. She gets her grace from her mother.
